According to the Fourways Review, a red rubber duck vanished from the iconic Old Ducky French Café in Fourways on January 12, and although a plea to community members for its safe return made waves on social media, the duck was still not found.

“We have reached over 30,000 people, and still no sign of our red racing ducky. The community has been amazing in sharing, and every day, they ask about him. No leads,” Marina Applebaum, owner of the Old Ducky French Café in Pineslopes said.

Appelbaum offered an R1,000 reward for its safe return and this sparked a conversation on air during the Breakfast with Martin Bester show, and then a tip-off was received. “I thought that a cash reward of R1,000 was better than a free meal. I want my ducky back. The red duck is part of our ducky family,” Marina continues.
On Wednesday, 29 January, Marina shared the amazing news that she was once again reunited with her beloved ducky. “Our beloved red duck has returned home where he belongs,” Marina confirmed.

After her interview on Jacaranda FM’s Breakfast With Martin Bester, Marina received a tip-off that an informal trader was attempting to sell the duck under the bridge on Winnie Mandela Drive. Marina herself leapt into action and brought the red ducky back to his nest safely.
Tune in to the ‘Breakfast with Martin Bester’, weekdays from 06:00 – 09:00.
