From the ground up, a new movement has begun. The Global Centre for Change Foundation (GCC) has officially launched, bringing with it a vision to reimagine community development and open doors to sustainable futures for those who have been overlooked for too long.
Founded by social innovator Tarryn Hallaby, The GCC is not a charity. It is a platform, a connector and a catalyst, driven by the belief that real transformation happens when people are given the tools to unlock their own potential.
“Traditional academic pathways work for some, but not everyone and that should be celebrated,” says Tarryn Hallaby, Founder and CEO. “Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. Too often, communities are defined by their struggles; and we choose to define them by their skills, creativity and brilliance. Our centres exist to recognise and nurture that talent, creating real pathways to quality education, meaningful employment, enterprise and independence”
A Vision Rooted in Grassroots Change
The GCC’s model is simple but powerful: combine education, enterprise and equity into practical, community-based hubs that equip people not only to survive, but to thrive. The Foundation operates with a business mindset rather than a dependency model, building initiatives designed to be self-sustaining, collaborative and scalable.
At its core, The GCC is a movement to:
- Celebrate skills alongside academics, ensuring all forms of learning are valued.
- Create spaces for youth and adults to access accredited training aligned with industry needs.
- Nurture micro-enterprises and grassroots businesses as engines of local opportunity.
- Build partnerships where corporates, NPOs and communities work side by side for measurable impact.
The Legacy Skills Centre: The First Expression of Change
The GCC’s flagship initiative, the Legacy Skills Centre in Cape Town’s deep south, embodies the Foundation’s vision. More than a building, it is both a training ground and a place of belonging.
Inside its walls, learners find:
- Skills Training Hubs: Accredited, hands-on courses that merge trades with literacy, numeracy and soft skills.
- Micro-enterprise Incubators: A launchpad for small business creation and entrepreneurial growth.
- An NPO Hub: A shared space for organisations to pool resources, amplify their reach and co-create solutions.
The Legacy Skills Centre is just the beginning. The GCC envisions a growing network of centres across South Africa, each adapted to its community but united by one mission: turning raw potential into sustainable opportunity and opportunity into legacy.
Building Futures, Together
South Africa’s youth unemployment crisis, high school drop-out rates and widening skills gap demand new solutions. The GCC answers with a model that is practical, scalable and rooted in dignity. For corporates, this offers a direct pathway to partner in workforce development and social impact that is both measurable and transformative.
“Lasting change doesn’t come from handouts,” Tarryn concludes. “It rises from within. Communities already hold the seeds of their own renewal. We simply create the conditions for those seeds to grow.”
