Years of research often lie hidden before a perfectly designed product is presented to an international audience. hansgrohe proves with its latest innovation that even the smallest shower unit – the spray nozzle – can be the starting point of a revolutionary development. After six years of intensive research in its in-house spray laboratory, the premium brand presents a highly developed spray nozzle for consistent spray quality and new spray types in pioneering innovations at the upcoming ISH in Frankfurt.

“Using less water is simple – you just turn off the faucet. The real challenge lies in using intelligent technology to create an exceptional shower experience,” explains Markus Woehrle, Head of Shower Research at Hansgrohe Group.

The Secret Lies in the Detail

The heart of the innovation is the newly developed adaptive spray nozzle. It is elastic and flexible and adapts dynamically to different water pressure conditions. This clever invention guarantees optimum spray quality consistently—regardless of the local water conditions. The flexibility and adaptability of the new generation of nozzles also offer advantages with hard water. The flexible nozzle automatically enlarges when the pressure increases and closes when the pressure drops. This ingenious interaction prevents limescale deposits and reduces the amount of cleaning required.

The company’s laboratories analyse every aspect of the showering process, from spray formation and water droplet size to the acoustic signature of the impinging water. “We have optimised even the smallest details to achieve the perfect combination of comfort, cleaning and sustainability,” explains Marcel Bilger, test and basic engineer of the new nozzle. Generating an optimum spray angle was the biggest challenge. With the new FlexPower technology nozzles, the angle of the water is not created by geometry. The water is guided by the interaction between deformation and flow. This requires a sure instinct and years of expertise.

Sustainability as a Driver of Innovation

The focus of all research is the resource-saving use of water. With a consumption of just six liters per minute for EcoSmart+ products with flow restrictors, every single drop of water is used optimally – without compromising on showering pleasure. “Each water spray is controlled and shaped so precisely that we achieve a very high level of showering comfort with minimal consumption of resources,” explains Woehrle. The entire product portfolio will be converted to water-saving technology by 2030.

Innovations for the Bathroom in Frankfurt

These and other ground-breaking technological innovations will be presented for the first time at the upcoming ISH in impressive bathroom design highlights. Visitors to the trade fair can experience the innovations for a more sustainable lifestyle for themselves in Hall 2.0 at Stand A02 and see the impact of years of research work.
