On September 23 local time, the 2026 10th China (South Africa) Export Brand Joint Expo grandly opened at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. Running for three days, the expo will continue through September 25. This edition is co-hosted by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce and organized by MIE Group. As a dedicated initiative launched by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce to explore African markets, the Zhejiang Pavilion brings together nearly 40 foreign trade enterprises from eight cities across the province with 50 booths, forming an integrated matrix of “Quality Zhejiang Goods” to meet the sourcing needs of buyers from South Africa and the broader Southern African region.
Seizing Opportunities at Africa’s Gateway: Zhejiang Opens a New Chapter in China–South Africa Trade
As the most developed economy on the African continent, a key member of BRICS and a member of the Group of Twenty (G20), South Africa stands at a critical moment of opportunity amid the restructuring of global industrial chains and the acceleration of African integration. Data from the Ministry of Commerce show that China has remained South Africa’s largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years, and South Africa has been China’s largest trading partner in Africa for 15 consecutive years; bilateral trade between China and South Africa reached US$52.46 billion in 2024, accounting for 18% of China’s total trade with Africa. With the advancement of the African Continental Free Trade Area, South Africa, as a gateway hub radiating across the Southern African market, has become the preferred destination for Chinese enterprises entering Africa. This expo precisely targets this market opportunity. The Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce has actively organized Zhejiang enterprises to participate, helping the province’s competitive industries connect with sourcing demand for intermediate goods arising from South Africa’s industrial upgrading, infrastructure development and growing consumption, and further integrate into the Southern African supply chain.

Government–Enterprise Collaboration for Market Expansion: “Quality Zhejiang Goods” Going Far and Steady
Organizing Zhejiang enterprises to participate in the South Africa expo as a group is an important measure by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce to expand foreign trade markets and optimize development layout. Through a model of “the government sets the stage and enterprises take the lead,” the Zhejiang Pavilion replaces fragmented individual participation with the collective image of industrial clusters, helping small and medium-sized foreign trade enterprises reduce market development costs and precisely connect with buyers from South Africa and across Africa. During the expo, Zhejiang Pavilion enterprises will also hold one-on-one matchmaking discussions with visiting buyers, promoting more high-quality Zhejiang intermediate goods into South Africa’s manufacturing, construction and distribution channels.
After ten editions of accumulation, the South Africa expo has become an important witness to and promoter of China–Africa economic and trade cooperation. Taking this expo as a new starting point, the Zhejiang Pavilion will continue to deepen trade exchanges with South Africa and the broader Southern African market, help more Zhejiang enterprises achieve new growth in this dynamic market, and inject new impetus into the high-quality development of Zhejiang’s foreign trade and the practical cooperation between China and Africa.
