Johannesburg is set to host one of the largest trade exhibitions between China and South Africa as the China (South Africa) Export Brand Joint Expo opens on September 23 at the Gallagher Convention Centre.

The event, jointly organized by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce and hosted by MIO Group International Exhibition, is the most extensive professional exhibition independently organized by China in South Africa to date. Spanning nearly 12,000 square meters, it brings together more than 400 enterprises from eight Chinese provinces including Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Guangdong, as well as companies from Hong Kong, Vietnam, Dubai, and other regions. With its expanded scale, the expo stands as a vital gateway for Chinese enterprises eager to explore African markets. Notably, 69 companies will participate under the “Quality Zhejiang Products” initiative, showcasing premium goods and innovations.

The trade fair has garnered strong backing from key South African business associations, including the Randburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of South Africa, the South African Alternative Energy Association, the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce, and the South African BRICS Business Council. Their involvement underscores a shared commitment by both governments and the private sector to deepen economic cooperation and foster sustainable development.

According to Mr. Coley Zephenia, a representative of the South African BRICS Business Council, the expo presents an opportunity for practical engagement across multiple sectors. “South Africa is ready to open its market and looks forward to strengthening experience sharing and B2B trade connections with Chinese enterprises in industries such as home furnishings, manufacturing, infrastructure, construction, and textiles,” he noted. “This platform will help clarify supply-demand relationships and ensure mutually beneficial outcomes.”

Beyond trade, the expo reinforces the broader economic partnership between China and South Africa, reflecting growing collaboration under frameworks such as BRICS. With strong institutional support and a record number of participants, the China-South Africa Export Brand Joint Expo is expected to accelerate business linkages, unlock new opportunities, and contribute to long-term bilateral growth.
