Sunshine Association Celebrates 50 Years of Hope with “Walking on Sunshine” Fundraising Event at Zoo Lake

Corporate South Africa invited to support the next 50 years through sponsorships, donations and community participation.
The Sunshine Association is celebrating its 50th anniversary with Walking on Sunshine, a 5 km Sunshine Walk and Family Fun Day taking place at Zoo Lake, Johannesburg, on Sunday, 8 November 2026.
The event marks five decades of supporting children with disabilities, their families and communities, bringing people together around a shared purpose: creating opportunities, promoting inclusion and building a brighter future.
Sunshine’s story began with a group of mothers who recognised the need for support for their children with disabilities. Through the commitment of families, professionals, volunteers and community partners, that initiative grew into an organisation dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families.
Now, as the organisation celebrates this milestone, it is inviting the public, businesses and community organisations to become part of its next chapter.
Walking on Sunshine: Every Step Makes a Difference
More than a walk, Walking on Sunshine represents five decades of courage, collaboration and hope. It brings the Sunshine Association’s legacy to life through a shared community experience centred on movement, connection and celebration.
Families, individuals, schools, community groups and corporate teams are encouraged to participate in the 5 km walk and enjoy a day dedicated to celebrating Sunshine’s impact.
The anniversary campaign aims to raise R500,000 to support the continued work of the Sunshine Association.
A Call to Corporate South Africa
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Sunshine is inviting businesses to partner with the organisation through financial sponsorships, corporate team registrations, in-kind contributions, event services, prizes and employee volunteering.
The event offers businesses an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to community impact while engaging employees and connecting with a cause that has served families for five decades.
Potential sponsorship opportunities include event branding, promotional partnerships, corporate participation and contributions towards the anniversary fundraising goal. Specific opportunities can be discussed directly with the Sunshine Association.
Every contribution, whether financial or in kind, can help make the celebration a success and support Sunshine’s ongoing work.
